Good morning to all of you,
Spirit Now London is pleased to welcome you today for this webinar with the artist Joel Andrianomearisoa. We are live from his studio in the Creuse (France) and simultaneously live from his gallery in Madrid with its founder/owner Sabrina Amrani.
As you know, Spirit Now London is a very close-knit community, and it is one of our members Virginie Syn who presented us the work of this artist, who represented the first-ever Madagascar Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2019.
His work immediately seduced me, and this is why I want to share it with you.
So today, we will have the pleasure to discover the work of Joël Andrianomearisoa directly from his studio, and he will answer your questions.
Joël Andrianomearisoa lives and works between Antananarivo and Paris.
He had recent solo shows in the Dallas Contemporary Museum (USA) and the Biennal of Sydney 2020 (Australia). Now, Joël has a solo exhibition at the Musée d’Art in Clermont-Ferrand. Additionally, there is a year-long exhibition with multiples intervention of the artist at the Kunsthalle Praga (Czech Republic) and soon a solo exhibition at the Chateau of Aigues-Mortes (France).
His work is in prominent public collections such as the Musée Les Abattoirs (France), the Studio Harlem Museum in New York, the National Museum of African Art in Washington DC or Zeitz MOCAA in South Africa, to name a few.
Joël’s current exhibition at the gallery Sabrina Amrani is titled «Dancing with the Angels ». We are happy to have with us today the owner of the gallery, Sabrina.
In his exhibition and through sculptures, paintings and a large specific installation, Joël reflects on the desire and the necessity of the other(s), the ones that inspire us, nurture and accompany us along our life journey.
Thank you, Sabrina, for welcoming us to your gallery, where you will be our guide, to introduce us to the work of Joel before he takes us to his studio.
Sabrina Amrani (Algerian French Born, lives in Madrid) opened in Madrid in 2011, with an international program focused on the Global South and artists. They deal with socio-political, socio-economic and cultural issues. At the beginning of 2019, she inaugurated a second exhibition space in Madrid dedicated to monumental scale exhibitions. The gallery acts as a platform bridging her artists with museums and the international art ecosystem.
