Founded in 2015 and directed by Marie-Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, Spirit Now London is a private and exclusive group of benefactors, collectors, and friends by invitation only.
Our members are invited to attend conferences and exhibitions, often followed by breakfast, lunch or dinner in private homes, museums, galleries, and artists' studios. Various cultural personalities such as museum directors, curators, artists, writers, philosophers, and designers are invited to come to London and to share their passion with the group. We have been fortunate enough to welcome, at that time, the director of the Palais de Tokyo, Jean de Loisy, Ralph Rugoff, director of the Hayward Gallery, and Laurent Lebon from the Musée Picasso.
Spirit Now London is also invited to VIP art trips to fairs in Europe. This year we have been invited to Arco Madrid and recently to Vienna with the auction house Dorotheum.
We have attended exceptional and inspiring talks, such as the conversation between Antony Gormley and Idan Segev, Professor of Neuroscience. Numerous great artists such as Idris Khan, Mat Collishaw, Isaac Julien, Sheila Hicks, Cornelia Parker, Mircea Cantor, and more have given us the privilege of entering their universe.
Similarly, famous collectors have also opened their doors to share their unique collections with Spirit Now (Maria Sukkar, Catherine Petitgas, Cora Sheibani, Anna Zaoui, Katrin Henkel, and Helene Nguyen to name a few).
Spirit Now London members are not only lovers of culture, but also philanthropists. As a group, Spirit Now supports cultural institutions such as the Hayward Gallery, Fluxus, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Marie-Laure is very happy to have members commission artworks to be made into an exhibition, as she did with Tomàs Saraceno for his show at the Palais de Tokyo. Spirit Now is dedicated to discovering talented young artists, whom the members help by providing support as a collector base and encouragement as well as a captive audience. Spirit Now is supporting Hicham Berrada's upcoming exhibition at the Hayward Gallery this July.
