and Magdalene’s exhibition at Albion Barn
With Michael Hue-Williams (Director)
Online event: 21 January 2021
Introduction by Marie-Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (founder of Spirit Now London)
Dear Spirit Now London Friends,
I want to thank the Spirit Now London community of collectors, friends and art lovers for being with us for this event.
I also would like to greet one of our partners,Le Spot Paris, who is with us.
As you know we keep on gathering, via Zoom our communities from London, Paris, Switzerland and Madrid, to enjoy the best culture together.
Our community is very strong. When one of our members Beatrice Ridley proposed this event to me, I immediately wanted to share it with you because I am passionate about Brancusi. I also was keen to discover the ceramist Magdalene Odundo, one of the best artists of her generation.
Today we are hosted at Albion Barn Gallery in Oxfordshire, by Michael Hue-Williams, a British art dealer and gallery director.
Michael Hue-Williams opened his first gallery with an exhibition on Max Ernst and was renowned for his Gallery in London ALBION which was designed for him by Foster and Partners in 2004.
Albion was the largest commercial Gallery space in London.
Michael Hue-Williamsl gave Ai Weiwei his first major UK exhibition and developed James Turell's career, such as Jaume Plensa, Joanna Vasconcelos, The Campana Brothers, to name a few.
He also produced international artworks for Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Richard Woods, Vik Muniz and Ai Wei Wei at the Venice Biennale in 2008.
Michael has worked to help produce exhibitions in the Guggenheim New York, Tate Gallery London, the Haus der Kunst in Munich, the Martin Gropius Bau, MAK in Vienna, Fondation Beyeler Basel, the Serpentine in London, Waddesdon Manor. He was a keynote speaker at the Intelligence Squared debate in morals and ethics in the art-world in 2010.
In 2012 Michael curated for Lord Rothschild and Christie's the monumental outdoor sculpture exhibition House of Cards, including masterpiece works by Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Joana Vasconcelos, Wim Delvoye, and Anish Kapoor among others.
In 2013 he curated the Masterpiece Sculpture Walk including monumental works by Eduardo Chillida, Joana Vasconcelos, Xu Bing, and Zhan Wang.
Michael Hue-Williams opened this exhibition space (Albion Barn) in October 2013. Albion Barn is situated in Oxfordshire and was designed by Christina Seilern of Studio Seilern Architects, winners of the 2013 RIBA Awards.
The space opened with a major exhibition of James Turrell’s works, including Skyspace. It was the first time a commercial show has ever included one of the monumental iconic works by Turrell.
